....about Antiparos and getting married here!
Who needs the Cafe Del Mar when you have Greece? I have spent many years travelling the Greek islands but I hadforgotten just how beautiful this one is. It’s not just the clichéd mounds of bougainvillea that tumble over tiny balconies and frame windows painted classic Cycladic blue and white; it’s the discovery of a 15th century castle, right next to the bar where I was absorbed with matters far too pressing to realise that I was seated next to a 500-year-old wall.
Surrounding this castle is a collection of dolls house style dwellings that make you want to leave your London life on a permanent basis and set up home on a tiny Greek island.

“Great setting for a wedding.”
We had our wedding reception at Kastro this year. It's a beautiful setting, very peaceful and quiet with a great pool area - ideal for families or couples. This is not 'boutique' accommodation - there isn't any that I know of on the island but it is the best place to stay if you want a pool and easy access to the beach with clean, comfortable rooms. We were served a delicious breakfast of fruit salad and Greek yoghurt which was included in our room rate. The sun beds by the pool do not have mattresses on which makes lounging by the pool uncomfortable and Magda gets annoyed if you take the cushions from the bar area and wet them, understandably, but surely mattresses on sun beds could be provided...
If you are thinking of having your wedding here, Magda has all the contacts to make it happen - the flowers, DJ, catering and styling were all fantastic but it is very much you get what you're given. Magda is happy to work with you to help you achieve the look of what you want yet she has a set agenda which most of the weddings follow. Having said that, it really was a beautiful setting, beautiful flowers and great catering. Magda ensured all the little details were in place on the wedding day. My only word of advice if you're thinking of having the actual legal ceremony on the island is to get your paperwork checked with your consulates in Athens before you get there. We found out we should have had all our papers stamped in Athens upon arrival which we were not informed about, even though we checked with our consulates in this country before we left. Magda and Markos were very helpful though and went out of their way to help us resolve these issues for the marriage to take place. Not the kind of stress you want days before your wedding and something I feel a wedding planner ought to have been aware of once we'd submitted our papaerwork. Feel free to message me if you want any more info re. weddings.
Overall, Kastro is a great place to stay if you're hoping for a chilled out and relaxed holiday on Antiparos
